Asparagus Auction & Draw

The last Sunday in May brings one of the most remarkable engagements the band undertakes, its annual Asparagus Auction and Draw held at The Fleece Inn, Bretforton.

This unique event has been one of the bands main fund raising events since it was first organised by the band in June 1973 to help raise money to purchase a set of new instruments.

After a concert by the band locally grown asparagus, including large exhibition bundles, are auctioned to members of the public and traditionally very large sums of money are bid.

The art of tying the 'hundred' of the very best 120 buds of 'gras' has received considerable media attention over the years, from being reported in the national press and being featured serveral times on television.
